Leading actor for ‘Through the Olive Trees’ directed by Iranian auteur Abbas Kiarostami has passed away just like his director.
Hossein Rezaei who starred in the masterpiece by Iranian directing powerhouse departed this life Tuesday due to lung complications.
A review published by the New York Times said about the actor's performance, “In Abbas Kiarostami's film ‘Through the Olive Trees,’ Hossein Rezai, a nonprofessional actor with soulful eyes and a streak of stubbornness that is as big as his ego, plays a love-smitten bricklayer whose would-be fiancée … refuses to acknowledge his existence.”
Kiarostami who passed away in 2016 made the notable flick in 1994, garnering a great deal of acclaim for ‘Through the Olive Trees’.
Also written by Kiarostami, the film is set in quake-hit Northern Iran. The title was selected as the Iranian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 67th Academy Awards, .
